Joel has over two decades of experience as a therapist working with adolescents, adults, and families. He holds Master’s degrees in Social Work and Education from the Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Chicago.
Joel began his career as a research assistant at the University Chicago Department of Psychiatry, where he helped develop a coding system for analyzing family interactions of children with ADHD. Joel has worked with adolescents and adults in a wide variety of settings, including the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School in Chicago, inpatient mental health facilities, as well as office and home-based psychotherapy with adolescents, adults, and families in Columbus.
Joel is currently employed full-time as a licensed school social worker with Columbus City Schools. He is a member of the district’s crisis response CARE team that provides psychological support to students, teachers, and families following tragedies in the community and school. Joel has conducted numerous trainings for school staff on working with students with mental disorders and trauma.
Joel specializes in treating anxiety and depression in adults and adolescents utilizing a cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused approach to treatment. He works collaboratively with clients to tailor interventions that meet their individual needs.
Joel enjoys spending time with his family and wife and children.
